School Consultation

School consultation is the formation of a collaborative relationship focused on systematic problem-solving with the goal of supporting school staff and improving student well-being and performance at school.

As a psychologist, I believe that all behavior is communication. Questions I am curious to answer in consultation include the following:

  • What need is the student trying to meet with their behavior?

  • How can the student’s display of expected and helpful behaviors be reinforced by adults?

  • How can adults avoid reinforcing student behaviors they do not want to see?

  • What replacement behaviors can we coach and reinforce the student to use?

  • What is the student’s perspective on school? How do they think things are going? What do they think would be helpful?

As a former teacher, I know how challenging it can be for teachers to reach all of their students. Classroom management is a growth area for teacher preparation programs. In my roles as a school psychologist and a licensed psychologist, I have consulted with a variety of educational professionals and teams. I look forward to bringing these experiences and the evidence base on interventions to bear as we work to help your student have great days at school.
