ABOUT
Like many high school students, I enjoyed school but had no idea what I would do after graduation. Until I took psych 101, and learned that my whole job could be talking to people and helping them to make their lives better. My first helping role was as a special education teacher in the Bronx, where I was fortunate to be able to learn from the classroom management experience of my class’ paraprofessionals, and from my students and their families, who taught me so much more than I could ever have expected. In the years since becoming a psychologist, I have studied neuroscience and am fascinated by the interaction between the brain and behavior. I am a scientist practitioner and data-based decision maker. I love assessments because they provide a direct view of student skills and abilities. Students often learn just as much about themselves in this process as their parents and I learn about them. I enjoy partnering with youth and their families, developing an understanding of their world, and grounding interventions in their hopes and goals. Few things make me happier than hearing about how a young adult followed through on a plan or next steps we discussed in session. Often they are surprised by their own resilience and capacity to handle challenging circumstances. If this sounds like an approach your child could benefit from, I’d love to talk about how I might be able to help!
